Mehdi Karbasian believes Mehdi Abad mine contract was signed in the conditions of sanctions.
In the interview with journalist Mine24, he mentioned that they used technical and specialized abilities of Ardeshir Sad Mohammadi, senior adviser in IMIDRO. In the following you can read this interview.
As was reflected in the news these days IMIDRO signs joint memorandum with prestigious international companies of which each of them shows a strong desire to attend in Iran, in your opinion of these companies to what extent, will be put on Iran market?
The main condition for the presence of these institutions to invest seriously and have an active presence in the Iranian market is complete lifting of sanctions.
In other words, until the full implementation of Barjam we should not expect big changes for attending foreign companies in mining and mineral industries sectors.
For example Export Guarantee Fund from Italy has announced its readiness to participate in the market for financing of mining projects or French overseas bank also expressed his interest to attend in Iran market; but everything depends on the full implementation of Barjam and until complete lifting of sanctions I'm not hoping the presence of foreigners.
It should be noted that the mineral's potential is great, but unfortunately, the government and private sector funding for such projects are not enough, so I am extremely agrees with entering the foreign investor in this current situation.
What do you think about Iran indexes for international investors?
Huge reserves of minerals, gas and young human resources are three important points for attracting investments in Iran.
Private sector believes government should not enter the process of attracting investors.
In other words, it is believed that this issue is not the government's job, what is your opinion in this regard?
Conditions in the country are such that we need to attract new financial resources for economic growth. IMIDRO negotiating with two foreign investors who are interested in direct investment and a bunch of other groups are assessing the situation.
According to the country's supreme leader Iran's first target for 1404 should be considered as the first economically country in the region, so aims of the government is to achieve 8 percent economic growth but these issues need to attract foreign investors.
How would be foreign investors activates in the mining and mineral industries, how do you define?
The key issue in attracting foreign investment is the way that they invest. The priority of IMIDRO and the government is direct investing of foreign companies.
Sachs Company last week announced its readiness to support the € 5 billion in mining. Now credible foreign companies are competing to participate in Iran's mining market, but the implementation is up to lifting the sanctions.
Some believe the government role in inviting and attracting foreign investors to participate in the Mehdi Abad mine project was not successful, what is your opinion?
Mehdi Abad mine project has become a complex issue. The contract and its investment were not made at the right time. The first contract of Mehdi Abad was signed at the height of sanctions and that is why Australian and Omani did not participate well in this project.
I believe that the mining sector is ready to absorb € 20 billion of foreign investment and international companies have stated their willing to invest in steel, aluminum and exploration. If this happens, it can help government to achieve economic growth and employment.
